Natural Impact on farm forestry in india
Natural Impact on farm forestry in india
Farm forestry plays the most vital role in controlling the Indian Economy. Especially the rural economy is entirely dependent upon agriculture. Farming is the occupation of 70% of rural people backing around 20% of the GDP of the country. It is also the means for engaging economically numerous people around the country.
Environment and nature impact farming on a large scale. The ecosystem of a particular area entirely depends on natural factors. Like- paddy can be grown in watery sticky soil. If the natural factors of that area don’t permit that then paddy plants would not grow. That is the reason every geographical area has different farming practices and a different basket of agricultural products. Like oranges can be grown in a cold climate and cotton can only be cultivated into Black Soil.
To elaborate on the natural impact we need to understand that the topic can be highlighted from two focus points. One is the impact on nature from agriculture and another one is the natural impact of an area to agriculture. Here we have discussed some mention-able topics which make a huge difference to nature and agriculture.
1. Impact of Natural Calamity in Farm forestry:
Disasters play a very significant role in cultivation. Mostly the impacts are negative and vast. Hydro-logical disasters such as flood, cyclones, droughts, wild-fire, heatwaves effects farming very much. Tonnes of crops get wasted every year for flood as the water from the river or sea-level increases and enters into the cultivation land. This results to increase the economic cost. The rate of occurrence of these hazards is increasing every year warning us about the mis-utilization of environmental resources. This is the major point while discussing impact as it could not be controlled with all our innovation and science. We can only take precautions to fight by building infrastructure.
2. Impact of Soil Erosion in Farm forestry:
This is a positive impact. Soil erosion can be avoided by using the land into cultivation. Having a plant resist the soil from flowing into river streams and other water sources. This way water pollution can also be undone. Soil erosion is now an emotional topic worldwide. Numerous scientist is researching on this and spending large amounts to eradicate the issue. But this can be only resolved by plantation.
3. Impact of Climate Change into Farm forestry:
Climate is an equally important factor while considering for agriculture. All crops have certain criteria for farming. Not only in India, but this impact is also prominent in the global context. Due to Global Warming things have reached an alarming situation in certain areas. Still, we segregate crops into different cultivation zones depending upon the climate.
For example, apples are cultivated in cool and dry weather, where a paddy field needs watery soil and controlled rain. This rule of nature can’t be undone. If you try to plant an orange in a warm area the tree will die or it will not grow fruit as usual.
4. Impact of Deforestation in Farm forestry:
Deforestation is another major issue we are fighting globally. Every year lakhs of trees are uprooted for making room for new habitation. It is also done for meeting the need for woods. We lose millions of birds and animals every year for deforestation. Rapid climate change is also a consequence of deforestation.
Farming can eradicate the problem of deforestation to some extent. It increases the oxygen level into the air and reduces the carbon-di-oxide to balance nature. It is necessary to maintain the water cycle also. Forestation reduces the dryness of the soil and prevents it from being like a desert.
5. Impact of Soil Quality in Farming:
Choosing an agricultural product can define your soil type or quality. In addition to the soil erosion, it can be the reason for maintaining soil structure, maintenance of the soil nutrients, the sanity of the soil etc.
Good soil produce good quantity and quality of the crop. It has a great effect on nourishing plants. Minerals and nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, sodium are important for the well-being of crops and plants. That is the reason that we can’t grow some kind of crop again and again in a particular land. Although fertilizers are there to keep the crops healthy but still the quality of soil is very important for farming.
Apart from the above points, more things control Farming or controlled by farming organically. Like pest and perils, attack by animals, etc. But these natural incidents can't be avoided. Along with that the ecosystem of a place is affected by the agricultural land associated. Like- cattle, by-products( derived products after extracting the original crop) etc.
We need more scientific and organic farming practices to resolve our food supply problems and also to save the environment from air pollution, water pollution and soil pollution.
Impacts & Solutions:
Both positive and negative impacts discussed above has an unimaginable amount of applicability. If we talk about soil quality as a negative natural impact of a factor then it could be improved by planning the plantation calendar of a particular year. Usually, farmers prefer bean crop farming to nourish the soil by increasing the nitrogen level of the soil. Also avoiding the plantation of the same crop, again and again, is required.
Apart from soil quality, the impact of climate change can also be reduced to some extent if precautionary measures are taken. Global warming is the main reason behind the drastic climate change. Adopting some small changes in our life can save our planet as well as save us. Like – using unconventional energy sources, restoring the green, using bio-degradable items, sustainable forest and agriculture management, recycling etc. Among all of the above mentioned the plantation has the most long-lasting effect.
Even we can reduce the impression of natural disasters also. We can fight against the flood by making a dam and using the water later for harvesting. Also, we can plant trees to fight against drought cause trees bring rain which prevents the soil from drying.
Hence, we can conclude that though the natural impact can both be bliss and curse for agriculture, still, we can initiate small steps towards to reduce the impact of the negative aspects so that we can enjoy a better living.
